Course Objectives

The objective of the program is to develop a pool of trained workforce which can be employed by healthcare service providers to assist nursing personnel to provide quality healthcare services. This course is prepared and geared to reach students with no previous experience in healthcare and who are desirous to work in a healthcare facility on completion of Patient Care Assistant/General Duty Assistant (PCA/GDA). This program focuses on the acquisition of skills necessary to assume an auxiliary role ir the care of patients under the direct supervision of a trained healthcare provider. Upon completion of the course, trainees will be able to:

• Identify the role and responsibilities of the PCA within the health care system.
• Understand theoretical knowledge necessary in providing services.
• Communicate accurately and appropriately in the role of PCA.
• Demonstrate professional and personal qualities and characteristics oJ a PCA.
• Demonstrate the ability to function as a PCA under the supervision of qualified personnel.
